Review & Description

The Naga Jolokia is a naturally-occurring interspecific hybrid primarily from Bangladesh, but also from the neighbouring Assam region of northeastern India. It grows in the Indian states of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, and the Sylhet region of Bangladesh. It can also be found in rural Sri Lanka where it is known as Nai Mirris (Cobra Chilli). There was initially some confusion and disagreement about whether the Naga was a Capsicum frutescens or a Capsicum chinense pepper, but DNA tests showed it to be an interspecies hybrid, mostly C. chinense with some C. frutescens genes. In 2007, Guinness World Records certified the Naga Jolokia as the world's hottest chili pepper, 400 times hotter than Tabasco sauce. If You have purchased the hottest chili pepper products known to man, the Naga Jolokia, botanically classified as Capsisum chinense. TOUCHING, INHALING OR INGESTING THE BHUT JOLOKIA PEPPER MAY INDUCE SEVERE PAIN. EXTREME CAUTION IS ADVISED IN THE HANDLING OF THE BHUT JOLOKIA PEPPER. We advise wearing long sleeves and gloves, but also protect your eyes, hair, nose, and face as exposure to Bhut Joloka may cause coughing, burning or hot spots in the mouth and/or on the skin, sneezing, anxiety, chest palpitations, shortness of breath, and watery eyes and nose. The duration of these side effects could last more than 24 hours. Natural oils in chili peppers do not respond to soap and water. Antidotes for both internal and external discomfort are milk or Ice Cream. Read more
